For people with online business' link building is one of the most important aspects of making their business successful. It is the internet version of marketing as it lets people know that your website is up and running. If they do not know your site is up, how can they visit it?

The link building definition is building up a list of back links. It is the process where you gather together all your back links and put them to work. Back links are what are doing the actual work to get your website traffic.

The reason back links are so important in getting you visitors is because they work alongside SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to determine what page your website should be on. They call it Page Rank, as it is your rank within the pages.

People generally do not go to the very high pages when doing a search. They will google something and often find what they are looking for within the first few pages. So if your website is not on those first few pages, it is not seeing many visitors.

So the goal link building and back links is to get your website as close to page one as you can manage. The closer you are to top, the more traffic you will get and the more chances there are for you to earn money off your site.

That is the link building definition, but even knowing what it all is and what it does, you may not know how to implement it to its fullest potential. If you do not know how exactly you go about setting up your back links then they still are not doing you any good.

There are three main tips to keep in mind when setting up your back links. They are not the be all end all of link building but they are the basics and can help you get on your feet.

1: Get relevant back links. If you get back links that have nothing to do with your website they will not contribute to your page rank. If they are not helping you get to page one then they are not doing anything at all, and are completely worthless. So make sure you only use links related to your site.

2: Try to get links from high ranked websites. If you manage to get back links from those sites you saw on the first few pages, this will greatly help your own rank. Links from those sites carry a higher value then links from other sites. SEO looks at the URL in the link and piggy backs some of that site's popularity onto your site because of it.

3: Get lots and lots of links. Quantity is just as important as quality. If you have good links they will be outclassed by other sites that have good links, but also have a lot of them. So make sure you get as many back links as you possibly can.
